Types of Learners Licenses:
In South Africa, there are three main types of Learners Licenses:
👉 Code 1: Motorcycles and scooters.
👉 Code 2 (Light Motor Vehicles): Cars, minibuses, and small trucks up to 3,500 kg.
👉 Code 3 (Heavy Motor Vehicles): Large trucks, buses, and vehicles over 3,500 kg.
How/When to Apply:
You must be at least 16 years old to apply for a Code 1 license, 17 years old for a Code 2 license, and 18 years old for a Code 3 license. Applications are done at your local licensing department, where you will write your test after making a booking.
